Effective March 3, 2026
By accessing or using Refract ("the service"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. We may update these terms at any time — continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Refract is a platform for creating GPU-powered visual effects — shader backgrounds, 3D scenes, and interactive compositions — and exporting them as embeddable files. The service includes:
You must create an account to use Refract. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and API keys. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement.
You retain ownership of the effects, shader code, and 3D scene code you create on Refract. By using the service, you grant Refract a limited license to host, serve, and display your content as necessary to provide the service (e.g., rendering embeds).
You are solely responsible for the content you create. Do not use Refract to create content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes on the rights of others.
Effects published via embed URLs are publicly accessible to anyone with the URL. You are responsible for where and how you distribute your embed URLs. Refract does not control or monitor third-party websites that embed your effects.
API keys grant programmatic access to your Refract account. You are responsible for keeping your API keys secure. Do not share API keys publicly or embed them in client-side code. Refract may rate-limit or revoke API keys that are abused or compromised.
Refract offers a free tier and a paid Pro subscription. Free accounts are limited to 5 saved effects. Pro subscriptions are billed monthly via Stripe and may be cancelled at any time. Refunds are not provided for partial billing periods.
Refract reserves the right to change pricing or plan limits with reasonable notice.
You agree not to:
You may delete your account at any time. Refract may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your effects and embed URLs will stop working. We will make reasonable efforts to provide notice before termination, except in cases of serious abuse.
Refract is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that the service will be error-free. We aim for high uptime but maintenance windows and outages may occur.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Refract and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Delaware.
